We don't breed often as we breed for quality not quantity.  We take a lot of time to decide who to breed and when.  Bitches must pass OFA hips, OFA elbows, clear eye exams, and be genetically tested for other diseases.  When we look for a sire we are looking for a boy who will compliment our girls.  Our first and foremost goal is to breed a Labrador with true Labrador temperament followed by improving structure in the breed.   Most of our bitches are bred 1-2 times and on occasion a third time.  When we breed , we may keep several of the puppies for ourselves.  We are selfish in keeping what we want first.  We are keeping that puppy that will genetically improve our breeding program.  

 We don't have a "kennel".  We have built on a room specifically for our dogs which is tiled and heated/cooled during all seasons of the year.  When we have a litter they are born in our home.  Typically one of our bedrooms is converted to the nursery, and I sleep next to the box with mom and babies.   As they age, the babies and mom move to a higher traffic area in our home.  They are exposed to all sounds of a family, kids, and the daily life in and out.  We vacuum around them and clank pans--we don't stop what we do at home because there are puppies!   Soon they are old enough to explore outside.  We keep them close to the house in their own little exercise pen, but the big dogs are able to see them.  While outside they are exposed again to more sights and sounds of the outside world! 

When puppies leave our home they leave with a good solid background!  They leave with multiple dewormings, at least one shot, microchip, contract, AKC limited registration.  We also send you home with a "book" with your puppy's history, shot record, and some additional general information.  We want you to go home with a great puppy!

A responsible breeder is one who:

• Is knowledgeable about the breed and breed standard
• Is active in the breed in some fashion, perhaps in the conformation ring, or in the performance aspect, such as obedience, agility, hunting, earthdog, schutzhund, ring sport, fly ball, etc;
• Has done extensive genetic testing on the breeding stock used and is willing and able to discuss whatever faults his/her dogs have (and all dogs have them. No dog is perfect.);
• The environment the dogs and puppies are kept in are open for your inspection and are kept sanitary;
• At least the dam of the litter is on the premises and is available for your inspection, with pictures and information about how to contact the owner of the sire available to you;
• Has provided proper medical care and nutrition to all his dogs and will provide you with medical records;
• Can discuss the socialization of the puppies and can make recommendations for the continued socialization and training;
• Will have a written contract and bill of sale;
• Will take back the dog at any time during the dog's life if you become unwilling or unable to care for it.
• Will be available to you for advice during the life of the dog.
• Will be a lifetime contact and mentor to you regardless if you show home or are a pet owner.
